Jamie Lawson plays Monroe’s

IRELAND HAS a track record of taking British and American singer-songwriters to its heart long before the singer’s native soil does.

Josh Ritter and David Gray are the most famous examples, and it seems now that Devon songwriter Jamie Lawson is the latest to experience this phenomenon.

Jamie’s song ‘Wasn’t Expecting That’ became a Youtube hit at the start of January, and by the middle of the month it had 1,000 hits. Ireland seemed particularly captivated by the song and it began featuring strongly on radio playlists.

The song’s popularity forced him to record it as a single for immediate release where it went straight to Number 1 on the Irish iTunes chart and number 3 in the official Irish Singles Chart.

Galway audiences will be able to enjoy this and other songs by Jamie when the Englishman plays Monroe’s BackStage Bar this Saturday at 9pm. Admission is €10.

Tickets are available on the door or through [email protected] and 091 - 583397.
