Galwegians’ views on the city’s chronic traffic congestion are being sought for a new online survey which hopes to provides solutions to the problem by first asking people what they see as the chief problems.
The survey is at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Galwaytraffic, and has been created by Uinseann Holmes, who ran in the February General Election. He describes the survey as “an experiment in Galway citizen power” which will allow all viewpoints “to contribute to the debate and the search for solutions”.
The survey includes questions such as: ‘Can I as cyclist, motorcyclist, van, car, bus or other vehicle driver contribute to better traffic flow and if so, how?’
‘Peak times, driver behaviour, centres of population, arteries of approach to the city all contribute to poor or good traffic flow, have I any specific suggestion as to these particular issues?’
‘What is my personal worst traffic "stopper" in Galway and what should be done about it in my view?’ Mr Holmes feels that if enough people answer these questions, it may help the authorities look at these blackspots as a priority and deliver an alternative.
