Caltra Cuans clinch intermediate crown

Caltra Cuan’s 0-13

Kilkerrin Clonberne 1-9

Calra Cuans lady footballers, winners of the county, Connacht, and All Ireland titles in 2010 at junior level, took another major step forward on Sunday when capturing the intermediate championship.

In defeating Kilkerrin/Clonberne in a hard-fought battle in Tuam Stadium by the narrowest of margins, they now go forward to represent Galway in the Connacht Championship.

Caltra enjoyed a 0-7 to 0-2 half-time lead with points from Theresa Loughnan, Orlaith Hannon and Áine Mannion, while Kilkerrin Clonberne failed to convert several chances before Annette Clarke and Lisa Walshe opened their account.

However Kilkerrin/Clonberne took over in the second half and looked destined for victory when they went four points up, helped by an Olivia Divilly goal.

Caltra regained the initiative to level again and the result was decided in the final seconds when a high ball broke to sub Orla Kilkenny who, like her sister, slotted it over the bar to ensure victory for Caltra.
