Following the exciting 1-11 to 2-8 drawn game last weekend in the county football championship between Cortoon-Shamrocks and Mountbellew/Moylough, the county board will be hoping for a big crowd at the replay which takes place this Sunday in Tuam Stadium (4.15pm ).
Cortoon Shamrocks will hope to have improved since last weekend’s championship action and they will be confident of advancing to meet Tuam Stars in the quarter-finals. Mountbellew/Moylough will be in their third weekend of championship action and it will be interesting if they can rise to the challenge again.
In the drawn encounter, Cortoon had some impressive performances from former All-Star Derek Savage in a roving role as a playmaker. David Warde was lively at full-forward and it was good to see the young and talented Adrian Varley back in championship action. Donal O’Neill and David Finnegan both had good games at the back for Cortoon and the evergreen Mickey Costello came off the bench to produce the goods and score an audacious goal for his side.
Mountbellew-Moylough looked to Joe Bergin and Cathal Kenny for their creative inspiration and county u-21 star Joss Moore did well in defence.
Frank Kinneen, who took charge of the 2010 county final, is down to take charge of the replay on Sunday.
