City Mayor opens Our Lady’s Boys Club’s new clubhouse

Mayor of Galway city Councillor Hildegarde Naughton cut the tape and officially opened the new clubhouse for Our Lady’s Boys Club at Sea Road.

A blessing ceremony was performed by Fr Martin Whelan on behalf of the Bishop of Galway and Mayor Naughton was welcomed by club president Jim Cunningham.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mayor Naughton congratulated the club on the new facility and paid tribute to the committee and the architects Simon J Kelly & Co, and all who were involved in this project. She spoke of her visit to this year’s annual summer camp at Knock Shrine, one of her first official functions as Mayor of Galway city, saying she was impressed with the summer camp and the work of the club. The major also noted that Our Lady’s Boys Club was the largest youth club in the country and said that the city council was delighted to have made a contribution towards the cost of the facility.

The mayor thanked the club for looking after the youth of Galway over the past 71 years and said that it was a very valuable asset to the city of Galway.
