The 57th Galway International Oyster and Seafood Festival concludes in style on Sunday with a full day of entertainment planned for all the family at the festival marquee on Galway Harbour.
Martin Shanahan, star of RTE’s Martin’s Mad About Fish, will be on the Miele stage where he will perform a live cookery demonstration using local produce from the sea.
Local Galway bars and hotels will pit their skills against each other for the inaugural Tullamore Dew Irish Coffee Olympics. The challenge is to make 10 Irish coffees in as short a time as possible under the watchful eye of Roisin Sweeney of the Corrib Princess - the current Irish Coffee Making Champion. Penalties will be given for poor presentation or taste and the cheering crowd help with the tasting.
There will be an opportunity to savour Galway’s first Blas na Mara with local restaurants Artisan, Cava, Martine’s, the Malthouse, and Vina Mara selling lunchtime bites as well as indulgent deserts at the festival food village. Children will be entertained with the giant family games from 12 noon to 3pm, while an Oyster Pearleen competition will be held for young ones who dress in marine themed costume. The winner will receive a world globe from Wooden Heart, Galway.
The inimitable 'craic agus ceol' will be present in the festival marquee with the West Coast Big Band and Spring Break bringing the festival to an exuberant close.
