Galway Bay Golf Resort is looking to expand its operations after opening a new driving range last week.
It is hoped that new facilities will provide a fillip to membership, green fees, and society visits, as well as increasing employment by up to 15 per cent. The golf resort currently employs 16 staff on a seasonal basis, but that number is set to expand over the next six to nine months.
Minister of State for the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport Michael Ring officially opened the new 24 bay driving and practice range.
Speaking at the opening, Minister Ring was full of praise for the endeavour of the club’s members: "This is the European Year of the Volunteer and nothing would happen in this country without volunteers, and it is down to the hard work of the members of this club that have helped get it to the fantastic place that it is today. Great credit is due to everyone concerned for these progressions and for the positive direction the club is going in."
Also attending the launch was local senator Fidelma Healy Eames who said in the past clubs like the Galway Bay were very exclusive, but now they were open to more people. “ The more new members who join will boost job creation, job creation is the issue right now and every job makes a difference.”
