Sinn Féin to hold major conference in Galway

Galway will be the location for a major Sinn Féin conference, entitled Towards a New Republic – I dTreo Poblacht Nua, which will be addressed by party president Gerry Adams.

The conference will take place in the Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill, on Friday October 7. Alongside Dep Adams, speakers will include Stein Bredal, a former trade union official with YS Statoil, and Terence McDonough, an economics lecturer in NUI, Galway.

The conference will address a variety of issues including Irish unity; energy infrastructure; the ownership and control of the State’s natural resources; and how to maximise our small and medium enterprises in land and fisheries.

“We believe that Government policy should reflect the spirit of the 1916 Proclamation, which declares the ‘right of the people of Ireland to the ownership of Ireland, and to the unfettered control of Irish destinies, to be sovereign and indefeasible’,” said Dep Adams.

“It is vital, therefore, that the new republic Sinn Féin envisions is one which exploits Ireland’s natural resources in the interests of all its citizens. For that very reason, the Galway conference will look at this issue of natural resources and infrastructure, as well as the economic and political benefits of uniting Ireland.”
