Galway’s Salthill Hotel has appointed Jonathan Kay as its general manager.
With 16 years of experience in the hospitality and leisure industry, Mr Kay joins Salthill Hotel from his post as general manager of the Leicester Marriott Hotel in England.
He has held several senior roles in the industry, including divisional operations manager for Crown Golf, the largest group golf operator in Europe where he oversaw the running of 23 golf clubs and three hotels; general manager of the Grand Hotel in Brighton; and various management roles within the Marriott UK/Whitbread Hotel Company.
Mr Kay, originally hailing from Britain, is no stranger to Galway. Having married a Galway woman, he has returned to Galway several times a year for the past 12 years to visit family and friends.
His new role, which commenced in mid-July, will involve overseeing the management of all aspects within the hotel.
Salthill Hotel says it is currently experiencing year-on-year growth, and a notable increase in wedding reservations. It has also opened the PROM, its new restaurant located at Salthill Hotel.
Mr Kay says: “I am thrilled about joining the team at Salthill Hotel. With such positive growth taking place here at a time where the hospitality and leisure industry is struggling in the current climate, I am eager to rise to the challenge of maintaining this momentum across all aspects of the hotel.”
Salthill Hotel, PROM restaurant, and Ocean Fitness Leisure Centre are located in Salthill, Galway city.
