Clarenbridge Oyster Festival celebrates another successful event

Another successful installment of the Clarenbridge Oyster Festival took place last weekend. Glamour, entertainment, and gourmet foods were the order of the day with local, national, and international visitors celebrating the official start of the oyster season. In recent years the festival has attracted huge attention from European and Asian visitors with this year’s festival the focal point for an Australian and Japanese TV documentary.

Festival organisers had promised a creative new structure with an array of additional novelty events being added to the line up. Guests were treated to oyster opening and eating competitions, brush dancing, non stop musical entertainment, and a fun filled family programme.

The Clarenbridge Oyster Festival is long associated with fashion and glamour and this year was no exception. With the fashion and style stakes raised, Galway Now sponsored the Best Dressed Lady Competition with milliner Mark T Burke creating a bespoke headpiece especially for the occasion.

Festival organisers again acknowledge the continued support and generosity of their sponsors. The weather certainly did not hinder what has been one of the most successful festivals to date with plans already under way for the festival in 2012.
