Man accused of stealing nearly €40,000 sent forward for trial

A 45-year-old Rahoon man charged in connection with the theft of nearly €40,000 in cash, stealing from one man’s house five times over the course of seven months, has been sent forward for trial.

At Galway District Court on Monday Detective Garda Michael Moran gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on Padraig Maloney with an address at Drum East, Rahoon.

Maloney is charged with the alleged theft of €5,000 in cash at a property at Aughnanure, Oughterard, on April 17, 2008, and with the theft of €2,000 on November 29, 2008, €18,000 on January 15, 2009, €5,000 on March 3, 2009, €5,000 on March 13, 2009, and €4,890 on June 26, 2009, at a house at The Orchard, Kingston, Salthill.

Inspector Mick Coppinger then informed Judge Mary Fahy that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the accused being sent forward for trial at the next sitting of Galway Circuit Court.

Judge Fahy ordered Maloney to be returned on bail to the Galway Circuit Criminal Court commencing October 6 next.
