The county intermediate football semi-final replay between Carna-Caiseal and Oughterard has been fixed for Saturday (5.15pm ) at Pearse Stadium.
Both sides served up an exciting contest last Sunday at the same venue, with Seán Ó Cualáin’s men coming from three down in the last few minutes to level the game with sensational scores from Niall Coyne, Seán Ó Cillín, and substitute Joe Joyce, who kicked a screamer from a side-line.
Oughterard will be annoyed they did not close out the deal last weekend and they had fine individual performances from Damien O’Reilly (second half ), Martin Coady, Matthew Clancy, Ronan Molloy, John McGauley, and the impressive Mark Kavanagh.
Carna-Caiseal are always extremely difficult to beat in the championship and they will not be phased by another replay.
Corner forward Colman Ó Maolchiaráin hit a few terrific frees in the first half, but more of their forwards will have to up their performances if they are to get back to the senior ranks for 2012.
If Kevin Clancy’s Oughterard can play with the quality and style of the second half last weekend for the full 60 minutes, they can advance.
In the senior championship, Mountbellew/Moylough were too strong for Micheal Breathnachs and won by 0-10 to 0-8.
The Connemara men were far too dependent on corner forward Petie Kenny, who scored all their eight points in a fine individual display.
Mountbellew were best served by Cathal Kenny, Colm Colleran and Joe Meehan.
They now take on Cortoon Shamrocks in the next round at 5.15pm at Tuam Stadium on Saturday with the winners facing Tuam Stars in the quarter-final.
