A daddy’s little girl, who had been put up at a four star hotel during a two week visit to Ireland, had an unexpected visit to the local courthouse where she was fined €200 for the theft of perfume.
The expensive taste of Bulgarian national Aleksandrina Georgieva got her in to a lot of trouble while she had been staying at the Forster Court Hotel in Forster Street, Galway, during a visit which had been paid for by her father.
However, the 25-year-old’s trip ended in a visit to the Galway District Court last Monday where she eventually, with the aid of an interpreter, pleaded guilty to the theft of Gucci perfume, worth €140, at Debenhams, Eyre Street, Galway, on October 29, 2008.
Inspector Mick Coppinger told the court that the theft had occurred while the defendant had been staying at the Forster Court Hotel and that she was still living there. He said the defendant had entered Debenhams at 7pm and stole the Gucci perfume but was apprehended by security. He added that she had paid €200 at the Garda station for bail.
Defence solicitor Adrian MacLynn said that the defendant came to Ireland 13 to 14 days before the court sitting as a visitor. He said that her father, a company director, had paid for the trip and that the woman was “provided for by her parents”. Mr MacLynn said that his client had informed him that she didn’t know why she had taken the perfume and had never done anything like that before.
Mr MacLynn said that Georgieva had no intention of staying in the country and once released would go back home to Bulgaria the following day if possible.
Judge Fahy ordered the €200, which had already been lodged as bail money, be taken as payment of the fine.
