Renmore and Claddagh win Pride of Place awards

The Renmore Residents Association and the Claddagh Residents Association won awards at the 2008 Pride of Place Awards Ceremony.

The All-Ireland Pride of Place Gala Awards ceremony took place at the Cappoquin Community Centre, Waterford, last weekend and was attended by the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese.

A total of 113 groups had been nominated by various local authorities. The Galway City Council nominated the Claddagh in the ‘Under 1,000 population’ category; Salthill in the 1,000 to 5,000 population; Renmore for the 5,000+ population; Age Action West in the Social Care category; and Áras Naofa, Renmore in the Community Facility category.

The Renmore Residents Association won first prize in their category and were presented with a Waterford crystal bowl and €2,000 cheque. The Claddagh Residents Association won the runner up prize in the under 1,000 population category and was presented with a Waterford crystal vase and €500.00 cheque.

The Pride of Place Competition recognises and celebrates the contributions community partnerships make to society. The focus is on people coming together to shape, change, and enjoy all that is good about their local area.

This is the sixth year of the Pride of Place Competition, which is run by Co-operation Ireland in partnership with the All-Island Local Authority Steering Forum, a forum that encourages strategic and sustainable approaches to cross-border co-operation by Local Authorities.
