The Indians Association in Galway will celebrate the Onam Festival at Árus Naofa, Renmore, this Saturday with various cultural and entertainment activities.
Onam is one of the most popular festivals celebrated in the state of Kerala, in southwest India. The celebrations last 10 days, with the festival culminating on Tiruvonam, held on the 10th day.
For Onam, people prepare special dishes to enjoy with family members, relatives, and the wider community, and it is celebrated by all Indians, regardless of religion or caste.
The festival is in remembrance of the regime of a king called Mahabeli, who ruled Kerala in ancient times, and who fostered communal harmony, equality, togetherness, love, and care.
