The streets of Galway will be alive with the sound of barbershop singing on Saturday afternoon as the city prepares for the upcoming Annual Barbershop Convention.
The event will be officially launched by the Mayor of Galway councillor Hildegarde Naughton at 2pm in the Eyre Square Shopping Centre. From there members of the Irish Association of Barbershop Singers will perform outdoors in Shop Street and High Street, and in The King’s Head, Busker Brownes, The Quays, Kelly’s, and Tigh Neachtains.
Déjà Vu from Cork will entertain shoppers in Quay St as will the all female No Half Measures and the all male Tone Cold Sober, both from Sligo. Also look out for Quality Time, the female quartet from Wicklow/Wexford and Sweet Auburn from east Galway/Athlone.
The event is to raise awareness for the 23rd Annual Barbershop Convention which takes place in NUI, Galway’s Bailey Allen Hall on October 7 and 8. This is an international festival of barbershop and unaccompanied singing, which will bring more than 400 delegates from Ireland and Europe to Galway to compete in various competitions.
