City clubs clash in Connacht Senior League

City rivals Corinthians and Galwegians meet for the first time this season on Saturday at Crowley Park in the Connacht Senior League fixture at 12.30pm.

Both sides are unbeaten this season, with Galwegians having posted two wins over Sligo and Connemara last weekend, while Corinthians enjoyed a 10-point win over Sligo in their first Connacht Senior League fixture at Hamilton Park last weekend.

Corinthians grabbed an early lead when winger James Buckley touched down, with outhalf Mick O’Flynn adding the extras and a penalty.

The home side got off the mark when Thomas Stenson crossed out wide, which outhalf John Healy converted before adding a penalty just before the break to put Sligo on level terms.

Corinthians, however, bagged two tries from centre Wayne Williams and replacement winger Brian Dixon. Although Sligo hit back with a try from scrumhalf Shane McGuinness, Corinthians dwere rewarded when scrum halfMick Murphy grabbed a final try, leaving the final score 18 -28 in the visitors’ favour.
