GALWAY BAND The Followers Of Otis will launch their new EP The Claddagh Sessions with a gig in Muddy Maher’s, Woodquay, this Saturday at 9.30pm.
The new EP features four tracks and was recorded in a house near Nimmos Pier in the Claddagh. It marks the debut appearance on disc of the band’s new guitarist Paddy O’Toole and also features A Band Called Wanda’s Donal McConnon and Darren Conncanon on strings and banjo.
The Followers’ sound is largely acoustic and folk based and the new EP shows them further developing their style. The melancholy ballad ‘The River Corrib Song’ and the up-tempo, funky folk-pop of ‘24 Hours’ are stand-outs.
“Calling it The Claddagh Sessions is an ode to our pride in all being born and bred in Galway as well as our time spent hanging out in the west during recording,” says Followers’ vocalist and songwriter Eoin Dolan. “We had a year out from doing recording so we were eager to get something down on tape. We’ll be doing a nationwide tour to promote the EP including a performance at Hard Working Class Heroes.
