Galway Family History Society celebrates twenty fifth birthday

Galway Family History Society West Ltd recently celebrated 25 years in existence with an outing for members and participants to Dáil Eireann, including a tour of Government Buildings and Leinster House and meeting with An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny.

The organisation was founded by Nuala Silke, Maeve Hanly, Mary Walsh Murray and Christine Conneely as a community project with the aim to gather, transcribe, and computerise genealogical sources for the Galway West region, while also providing computer training and vocational employment skills in the community as a local training initiative.

Galway Family History Society West Ltd specialises in providing a professional genealogical research service to those wishing to trace their Galway West ancestors and is a member of the Irish Family History Foundation (IFHF ), the largest provider of professional family history research services in Ireland with some 18 million Irish Ancestral records now available to search on www.rootsireland.ie

As part of this year’s Heritage Week events, Galway Family History Society West invites all those interested in genealogy to go along to a presentation and discussion on Tracing Your Galway Ancestors. This event will take place on Tuesday August 23 at 2pm in St Joseph’s Community Centre, Ashe Road, Shantalla. This is a free event and all are welcome.
