The Western Family History Association will host a workshop on investigating your family history later this month as part of Galway’s Heritage Week programme.
The Western Family History Association is a genealogy association based in Galway with members from counties Galway, Clare, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, and Leitrim. It operates as a support for members and does not carry out research.
The workshop, entitled Investigating your Family History - A Practical Approach, is being organised in conjunction with the Galway County Council and will take place in the Claregalway Hotel on Wednesday August 24 from 7pm to 10pm. The workshop speakers are Bríd Higgins, secretary, Western Family History Association, who will introduce the sources used in family history; Siobhan McGuiness, Galway Family History Society West, who will speak on tracing your ancestors through Galway’s genealogy centres; and Gerard Naughton, Western Family History Association committee member, who will talk about compiling all your family history research.
The workshop is free and all are welcome. The event will also see the launch of the Western Family History Association’s new website.
The Western Family History Association meets five or six times a year, and also organises genealogy activities. Meetings are open to the public. The association also provides a continually expanding library of genealogical and historical books for members' use. The association’s regular meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month (alternating months ).TFor further information contact Bríd Higgins, secretary of the Western Family History Association, at [email protected] or (087 ) 795 6229; or Marie Mannion, Galway county heritage officer, at [email protected] or (091 ) 509198.
