Grealish calls for pet owners to be vigilant after sheep killed on farm

Independent Deputy for Galway West Noel Grealish has called for dog owners to be extra vigilant about their pets, after an incident in Turloughmore where sheep were killed at the weekend.

“I am calling on all dog owners to ensure that their dogs are locked in or tied up at night-time and also to ensure that they are kept under control during the day,” said Deputy Grealish.

“The slaughter of sheep by dogs is extremely distressing for a farmer and also for the dog owner, who may have to put their family pet to sleep after such an attack. This is also expensive for the farmer who will have lost the income from the sheep and make have to pay for vet’s fees and disposal of the animal. Vigilance on behalf of dog owners is critical to prevent this type of occurrence happening again in the future.”
