Hurling club tackles Thonabrucky hill for charity

Rathun an Chaislean Nua Hurling club have joined forces with Cystic Fibrosis Galway in order to raise much needed funds for the Cystic Fibrosis UHG Hospital Fund and their own hurling club. The club will be hosting a 6km Fun Run sponsored by Londis/Subway Newcastle on Sunday September 11 in the Rahoon area that will incorporate the famous Thonabrucky hill.

The club is calling on all runners, walkers and even strollers to take part in the day which will be preceded by a family fun day at the club itself. The cost of entry is €20 for an individual participant, €30 for a family and under 16s go free!

"The club is keen to get everyone in the parish involved; we want to generate more community spirit in the area and why not have some fun while we do that. We are delighted to have CF as our charity of choice as this is such a worthy cause," said Lisa Regan of Cumann Iomanaiochta Rathun an Chaislean Nua.

" We are so thrilled to be involved with Rathun an Chaislean Nua in their Fun Run. The CF Galway Hospital Fund is so badly in need of funding so this race could not of come at a better time," said Mary Lane Heneghan, President of the Galway Branch of CF.

The day will kick off at 1pm with the race starting and finishing at the hurling clubs HQ in Thonabrucky. Registration and race number collection will take place from 12pm in the clubhouse and the first 100 people to enter will get a sponsored T Shirt. After the race there will be a fully catered BBQ and refreshments whilst the fun kicks off on the pitch with a tug of war, wheelbarrow races, long puc, street handball, egg and spoon races and several bouncing castles to keep all the family entertained!
