GIVE A group of musicians a diverse range of hand made instruments and let them freely explore the instrument and the sound it makes - this is the idea behind Stop/Run: Galway.
The Stop/Run event, which has also taken place in Dublin, is coming to Galway on Friday August 26 from 8pm to 10pm and will be held in 33 Dominick Street.
Stop/Run is a project initiated by Dublin-based musician and instrument maker Ed Devane and is based around an ensemble of experimental musical instruments which Ed himself has designed and built.
The idea of Stop/Run is to bring the instruments to different parts of the country and commission a diverse range of acts from each locality to use the ensemble in the creation of new music. How they use the ensemble is left up to the individual composers. Some acts will perform new compositions at the public concert, while others will release EPs based on remixed recordings of the ensemble.
The performers will be Annemarie Deacy, formerly part of Mirakil Whip, now concentrating on installation and sound art; bass and percussion duo Bitwise + Madek; and the award winning trad/sean nós band Triúr; Ed Devane; turntablist and producer Jimmy The Hideous Penguin; and electronics producers Ventolyn & Becotyde.
Admission is €5. See www.eddevane.com and www.stop-run-music.com
