CHERISH THE Ladies, whose take on Irish trad The New York Times has described as “passionate, tender, and rambunctious” play Monroe’s Live on Wednesday.
The band, under the leadership of Joanie Madden, has been in existence for 25 years and over that time it has been a launchpad for such leading trad and folk musicians as Eileen Ivers, Winifred Horan, and Heidi Talbot.
The Irish-American band’s current line-up is Joanie Madden, Mary Coogan, Mirella Murray, Roisín Dillon, Deirdre Connolly, and Kathleen Boyle, and they are currently promoting their new album Country Crossroads. The album was recorded in Nashville and features contributions from Vince Gill, Nanci Griffith, and Maura O’Connell.
With their blend of virtuosi instrumental talents, beautiful vocals, captivating arrangements ,and stunning step dancing, a Cherish The Ladies gig promises a night of quality trad and rich entertainment.
The band are also no strangers to critical praise for their albums and shows, with The Boston Globe saying: “It is simply impossible to imagine an audience that wouldn't enjoy what they do” while The New York Daily News declared them as one of “the foremost Irish traditional music groups in the world”.
Not only that but there is a street in New York named after them when last year when ‘Joanie Madden and Cherish the Ladies’ became a permanent street sign on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx.
