Derby games are always renowned for their unpredictability so anything could happen in Saturday's contest at Drom between cross-town rivals Salthill Devon and Mervue United. Having finally posted a home win at the 10th time of asking, Salthill will be buoyed up by last Sunday afternoon's triumph over Mervue. Teenager Timmy Molloy, who still has two years remaining in secondary school at Colaiste Iognaid, confirmed his potential with a splendid second-half winner.
Paul 'Ski' McGee has altered his squad recently and there was enough evidence in this Wexford success to suggest that Salthill can continue to improve. Brian Geraghty, Ray Winters, and James Whelan provide a physically imposing defence in front of goalkeeper Ronan Forde, while Enda Dunne and Timmy Molloy don't lack skill, with Eugene Greaney and Emmet Shaw both able to put in shifts.
Mervue, who have made strides this season, will be slightly perturbed by the fact that they have won only once in five matches. Perhaps that is a measure of their development, but Johnny Glynn's young team have tested the resolve of most sides in the Division. Ger Hanley, James Casserly, Martin Conneely, John Moutney, and Pat Hoban have been among Mervue's better performers in the past fortnight. Etanda Nkololo, impressive for Salthill earlier in the campaign, has switched to Mervue and his pace and Jason Molloy's poise could be key factors in a match that promises to be interesting.
