228 LASHES, the new exhibition at the 126 gallery on Queen Street, will be officially opened tomorrow with a reception from 7pm to 9pm.
The exhibition, created by Berlin based artist Padraig Robinson, is centred around the theoretical essay Two Hundred and Twenty Eight Lashes in a once off print edition of 228.
The essay looks at concepts relating to communication, identification, ideological ownership, and surface politics, taking as its starting point the public execution of two teenagers in Iran in 2005.
The whole edition will be displayed as a sculptural object where the individual essay booklets will be free to the viewers.
As well as the essay/sculpture, there will be two objects accompanying the text - the circular light-box sculpture Safe Semiotic and the gallery light alteration Monument to Aesthetic Justice/Justification.
