The inept display by the Galway minor footballers against Roscommon in the Connacht final was disappointing.
Now they need to produce a more co-ordinated, hard-working and passionate display this Saturday against Cavan at 3pm in Longford in the All-Ireland quarter-finals if they are to stay in the 2011 All-Ireland championship.
That defeat to Roscommon has been consigned to the memory bank and the players have a chance to prove they are much better than that performance suggested. They had a good win against Meath in a challenge last weekend and the mood is positive in the camp as they head up the motorway to Pearse Park to face the Ulster champions.
It is all to play for this Saturday afternoon with a place in the last four up for grabs. The Galway team is due to be announced tonight (Thursday ) and understandably there are expected to be a number of changes to the side that started the Connacht final.
It is time for some of these very talented young men to stand up and be counted.
Ability without the right attitude, work ethic and desire to be successful will not get a player or a team very far.
In players such as team captain James Shaughnessy, Ian Burke, Shane Maughan, Conor Rabbitte and Shane Walsh, Galway have the nucleus of a team that should be able to go out and compete at the very least, if not defeat Cavan.
It is do or die for this particular team on Saturday. They must either produce the goods and move on to play in Croke Park, or get off the pot.
