River Corrib midsummer fete – the perfect family day out

COPE Galway is hosting its first midsummer fete down by the River Corrib in the grounds of NUI Galway on Sunday from 1pm to 6pm. Entry to the fete is free and it will be a great afternoon for families with lots of fun activities.

The fete will feature music by local artists, there will be gourmet food and drink stalls, lots of games for children and all the family including giant Jenga, Connect Four, and Twister, bouncy castles, face painting, and other games like egg and spoon and sack races. In addition to the food and drink stalls there will be crafts people selling jewellery, clothes, headpieces, soaps, wood craft, plants, and much more. There will be children’s lucky dip, guess the weight competition, and of course a tombola wheel with lots of prizes. There will be something for the whole family to enjoy.

Fintan Maher of COPE Galway said: “This is our first year holding such a fete and we are delighted that NUI Galway has given us permission to host the event in the grounds of the university. The setting is perfect by the River Corrib and we are encouraging families to come along and have a lovely afternoon playing games by the river. It is a perfect setting for a summer picnic and all you require for a scrumptious picnic or afternoon tea will be available at the fete. Best of all, all of the stall holders are donating part of their proceeds to support our work and all of the proceeds for the tombola, etc, will be going to COPE Galway.”

All proceeds raised will be used directly by COPE Galway in its services for homeless men and women, women and children who experience domestic violence, and older vulnerable people who live in isolation in Galway.
