Galway branch of United Left Alliance to be launched

The United Left Alliance, the new force in Irish left wing politics, is to launch a Galway branch at a special public meeting next week.

The official launch of the United Left Alliance in the city takes place next Monday at 8pm in the Harbour Hotel.

The meeting will be addressed by TDs Joe Higgins and Richard Boyd Barrett, The Socialist Party’s Conor Burke, and Dette Mc Loughlin of the Socialist Workers Party/People Before Profit.

The United Left Alliance was launched nationally last November. It comprises a number of different left wing groups, including the Campaign for an Independent Left, the People Before Profit Alliance, the Socialist Party, the Workers and Unemployed Action group, as well as many Independents and individuals.

The ULA made an immediate significant breakthrough in the February General Election with five TDs being elected. It also has one MEP and 20 councillors.

The alliance is open to all those who oppose the current economic strategy and who strive for “a fairer, more equal society”.

All are welcome to attend the launch.
