The new ‘JobBridge’ intern scheme will “build the confidence of people who have been left unemployed”, enhance their career prospects, and benefit local and national businesses.
This is the view of Labour councillor Niall McNelis who is calling on Galway city and county businesses and organisations to take part in the new ‘JobBridge’ National Internship Scheme.
A total of 5,000 places are available on the scheme, which is open to individuals who have been unemployed for more than three months. Participating interns will receive an allowance of €50 per week, in addition to their social welfare entitlement, over the course of their six to nine month internship.
Cllr McNelis is encouraging public, private, community, and voluntary organisations to open up their doors to the scheme and interns.
“Interns have the potential to bring great benefits to organisations; they will take to their roles with enthusiasm and passion, as they will be taking the first steps towards their future careers,” he said. “This scheme will build the confidence of people who have been left unemployed, and greatly enhance their career prospects.”
