Problems are mounting at Terryland Park, both on and off the pitch. Fifteen successive league defeats have left the club marooned at the foot of the table and a seemingly constant haemorrhaging of its best players means it is difficult to envisage an imminent resurrection.
Last month’s announcement that all of the playing staff are available for transfer outlined the grave financial situation facing the club, and players such Karl Moore, Gregg Flemming and Shane Kelly have departed in an attempt to alleviate the €1m debt.
In a bid to address the situation, Galway United Supporters Trust will hold an open meeting for all supporters next Wednesday July 13, at Terryland Park. PRO Vincent O’Connor explains the reasons behind its scheduling: “The purpose of the meeting is to inform all supporters of the up-to-date situation at the club and to outline plans to ensure Galway United can compete in the Airtricity League for the remainder of the season. The meeting starts at 7.30pm. Everyone interested in the survival of the club is asked to attend.”
