‘Remembering Aoibhe’ in Renville Park 5K Run

Connacht Rugby captain John Muldoon is among sporting stars who have already signed up for the Renville Park 5K ‘Remembering Aoibhe’ Run.

The event, in association with Level One, takes place on Wednesday July 20 at 8pm in Renville Park, Oranmore with all proceeds donated to The Meningitis Trust to help the charity raise further awareness around meningitis.

The route is officially measured using Jones Counter and is chip timed. Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are welcome to take part, with registration set at €15.

The run has been given the title Renville Park 5K ‘Remembering Aoibhe’ Run by the parents of Aoibhe Carroll, Siobhan and Noel. On April 2 2008, four-years-old Aoibhe died suddenly from meningitis, and her parents are now trying to raise awareness of the killer infection.

Speaking at the launch, Siobhan Carroll said her family wished to help raise awareness about meningitis through the run and to get people together for an evening where they could test their running skills and training.

“ Renville Park is a beautiful, tranquil setting for the event and we hope to raise some much-needed funds to support The Meningitis Trust in their efforts to inform people about the illness.”

Linda Burke, managing director of Level One, said: “Level One are proud to support the Renville Park 5K ‘Remembering Aoibhe’ Run. Meningitis is an illness which can affect anybody and raising awareness gives parents and individuals the power to act in time and potentially minimise its effects. We anticipate a great turn out on the day and hope the run will be the first of an annual event.”

Registration is now open online at www.runireland.com Registration will also take place on the evening of the run between 6pm and 7pm in Renville Park. For further information on the run log on to www.LevelOne.ie or visit the ‘5K Run “Remembering Aoibhe”’ Facebook Page.
