Provincial councils must reduce ticket prices

Thirty euro for the stand and €25 for the side-line represented poor value last Sunday for the fans who turned up, and the GAA at large need to try to add a bit more razzamattazz to their games.

Many Galway people, believing €30 too much, did not travel to McHale Park, and there would be little change from €100 if there were two adults travelling. Taking into account the cost of travel, food, and the quality of the senior game, they made the right decision.

The game was live on TV too and when games are too expensive, people will stay at home.

Patrons are voting with their feet. I drove through Ballinrobe around 12.45pm and you would not have even known there was an important championship game on in McHale Park. I remember a huge tailback there a few short years ago.

Imagination and proactive measures are needed to turn things around.
