Locals appeal for support for Turloughmore playground project

A major community effort is underway in Turloughmore to provide the local children with a state of the art playground, and funding support from local people is needed.

A committee has been formed to realise the project and to date it has secured 75 per cent of the funding. It is now asking local community members to offer donations towards securing the remaining €40,000.

The committee has distributed donation envelopes door to door in Claregalway, Turloughmore, Cregmore, Knockdoe, and Carnmore and donation boxes are also located in Flynn’s SuperValu, Lackagh; Turloughmore Centre GAA Club; Hughes SuperValu, Claregalway; and Raferty’s Centre, Claregalway.

Turloughmore Hurling Club has already donated a site within the club grounds for the playground. The site is located about 10 minutes from seven different national schools and has parking facilities.

“We believe a resource like this has been long overdue in the area,” said Fr Desmond Walsh of the playground committee. “The population here has expanded dramatically in the last decade and we have a wonderful community of young people who would benefit hugely from such a facility.”
