SONGS OF Ireland, a concert of music and song of the nation, will take place in the Town Hall Theatre this Saturday at 8pm.
Works by Rory Dall Ó Cathain, Turlough O’Carolan, Moore, Balfe and Wallace, among others, will be performed, as well as the great unattributed classics.
Songs in English will be sung by soprano Sandra Schalks accompanied by Elena Gekker and will include a performance of the new Ave Maria (dedicated to Our Lady of Kylemore ) by Rod McGahon.
Songs as Gaeilge will be performed in Irish by the distinguished Connemara singer Seosamh Ó Flaithearta, accompanied by Tom Cullivan.
Violinist Sebastian Petit will lead his ensemble Mazurka - Natalie Flynn (second violin ), Annette Slattery (viola ), and Sokol Koka (cello ) - in Tom Cullivan’s Piano Quintet No 1 with the composer at the piano. They will also play Petit’s arrangement of ‘The Mason’s Apron’.
