A Rahoon man accused of dealing drugs with the intention of enhancing the ability of a criminal organisation has been sent forward for trial.
Paul Black (30 ) with an address at 48 Corrach Bui, Rahoon, appeared at Galway District Court on Monday. He is charged with allegedly committing a serious offence, namely the possession of cannabis with intent to sell or supply between July 23, 2009, and June 1, 2010, within the district of Galway, while knowing that a criminal organisation existed and participating in this activity for the purpose of enhancing the ability of the organisation to commit serious offences, contrary to Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006.
Black had been one of a number of individuals arrested in connection with the ‘Operation Foolscap’ crackdown on organised crime in the west.
Garda Darragh Ainsworth gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on Black before the court sitting. Inspector Mick Coppinger told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the accused being sent forward for trial at the next sitting of Galway Circuit Criminal Court commencing July 12.
After giving Black the alibi warning Judge Elizabeth MacGrath remanded him on continuing bail, as set down by the High Court, and ordered him to be returned for trial on July 12 next.
