Peugeot has launched its newly updated 308 hatchback here. It features styling elements seen on the newly-launched Peugeot 508, including Peugeot’s new signature floating grille to give it a more elegant and modern look.
All the strengths of the original Peugeot 308 have been retained and heightened with the introduction of a Euro 5 compliant 1.6 HDi diesel engine and Peugeot’s innovative micro-hybrid eHDi stop and start technology. A very important positive is that all three available models qualify for €104 annual road tax.
The new 308n hatchback sells from €20,495 ex-works. Standard equipment on the 308 Access 1.6 Hdi 92bhp model includes air conditioning, a full size spare wheel, ESP, electronic brake force distribution, emergency brake assist, front and rear electric windows with child security, remote control central locking with deadlocks, 2 ISOFIX child seat fixtures, and six SMART safety airbags.
For an extra €1,500, the next level up - the Active 1.6 Hdi 92bhp model retails from €21,995 ex-works and gains Bluetooth, front fog lamps, LED daylight running lights, auto wipers and lights, an electro-chrome rear view mirror, cruise control with speed limiter, a leather steering wheel, front and rear centre armrest, and 16” alloy wheels.
Peugeot also tells us the Active 1.6 Hdi 112bhp Ecomatique model retailing from €23,995 ex-works features Peugeot’s new eHDi stop and start technology, which works to reduce consumption by up to 15 per cent and CO2 emissions to 109g/km.
To ensure the new 308 is as environmentally efficient as possible, all factors affecting CO2 emissions have been optimised. Overall weight has been reduced by up to 25kg and the drag coefficient is a low 0.28Cx.
Des Cannon, Peugeot’s sales and marketing director told the Advertiser: “Since its launch in September 2007 more than 900,000 308 models have been sold worldwide and the new-look 308 will undoubtedly continue to perform well. With a new signature grille and more equipment, the economical Peugeot 308 will remain one of our keys sellers in Ireland and we aim to sell a total of 700 308 units before the end of the year.”
