He was also summoned for trespassing with intent to commit an offence on the same date.

The court heard how there were further charges against the defendant which included: Stealing cash from four poor boxes, value €60, and causing criminal damage to them at Spar Shop, Eyre Square, on February 8, 2008; criminal damage to the front door, value €1,000, of Centra Supermarket, Forster Street, on February 8, 2008; failure to appear in court on February 11, 2008; being intoxicated in a public place at Ard Alainn and criminal damage of handcuffs at Eyre Square on April 27, 2008; assault of Damian Czarnecki at Dunnes Stores carpark, Westside, and for stealing a bottle of vodka, worth €27, on April 27, 2008.

Faherty had also been summoned for the criminal damage of a cash register, valued €170, at Spar Shop, Eyre Square, and with assaulting Declan Mahon at Centra Supermarket, Forster Street, on February 8, 2008.

Inspector Pat McHugh told the court that at 9.30pm on December 24, 2007, the defendant entered Hazel Park and entered a driveway carrying a knife and threatened a person who had been sitting in a car. He said that Faherty had been observed by neighbours. He said that the glass of the car had been damaged during the incident.

On February 8, Inspector McHugh said that the defendant went into Spar shop and pulled poor boxes away from the counter which had been tied to the register causing damage. The defendant then went to Centra where he “kicked baskets around” and “kicked the door as he was leaving” causing damage. At Dunnes Store car park on April 27, the defendant stole a bottle of vodka and assaulted the security man.

The defendant was remanded on continuing bail and the case was adjourned until January 26, 2009, for the preparation of a probation report.
