Footballers prepare with a win over Cork

The Galway footballers continued their preparations for the Connacht semi-final on Sunday week against Mayo in McHale Park with a narrow win over the All-Ireland champions Cork in Ennis at the weekend.

Padraig Joyce was to the fore in the scoring stakes and u-21 star Mark Hehir was impressive at centre-forward. There is a settled look taking shape to the team that will start against Mayo.

Three players were unavailable to play, Colin Forde, Adrian Faherty and Alan Burke, and unfortunately Sean Armstrong pulled his hamstring again and will be out of contention for selection for the Mayo clash which will probably mean a starting place for Caherlistrane’s scoring ace Cormac Bane.

The team that started last Sunday was: Padraig Lally, Johnny Duane, Niall Coyne, Kieran McGrath, Gary O’Donnell, Greg Higgins, Gary Sice, Joe Bergin, Finian Hanley, Owen Concannon, Mark Hehir, Gareth Bradshaw, Padraig Joyce, Paul Conroy, Sean Armstrong.
