Mother Africa cultural event for Athenry

A Mother Africa cultural event in aid of Cecelia’s Foundation for the Disabled International and Mother Africa Charity Shop will take place in Athenry next week.

This cultural event and fashion show, which will take place on June 16 at 8pm in the Raheen Woods Hotel, promises to be a fascinating, exciting, and rewarding occasion.

The event is being organised to raise funds for organisations that cater for the underprivileged and disabled in the Republic of Liberia, many of whom are extremely poor and lack access to quality education, food, shelter, and clothing, along with other basic needs. As a result most disabled people are seen begging around street corners while others walk about Monrovia singing songs in groups and pleading for help.

The Mother Africa Charity Shop will showcase beautiful African costumes and magnificent traditional materials from across the continent of Africa. This event will also provide an opportunity to enjoy and explore real African music and dance.

The keynote speakers will be Junior Minister for Education Ciaran Cannon and Ifrah Ahmed, chairperson of the End FGM (female genital mutilation ) campaign.

Special performers at this event include the Baslowa Africa Band, the Athenry Orchestra, the Congolese Dance Group, the Liberian Dance Group, and the Nigerian Dance Group.
