Newly crowned Irish Coffee making champion Roisin Sweeney, of the Galway-based Corrib Princess, could be demonstrating her skills to US President Barack Obama during next year’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations.
After sampling a pint of Guinness in Offaly recently President Obama could develop a taste for Irish coffee if Roisin Sweeney has anything to do with it.
Having won the Powers Irish Coffee Making Championships at Foynes, Co Limerick, at the weekend Ms Sweeney received a promise from impressed Minister of Arts, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan, to get her into the White House for St Patrick’s Day to demonstrate her skills to the president.
However, for now she will have to make do with the beautiful Waterford crystal trophy, a trip to New York for two people, and €700 in prize money she received after being named the outright winner at the championships final on Sunday night last.
The home of Irish Coffee, Foynes Co Limerick, placed host to the National final of the Powers Irish Coffee Making Championships 2011 during the Bank Holiday weekend with four finalists battling it out, demonstrating their expertise, knowledge, and skill of making the perfect Irish coffee.
The four finalists were Roisin Sweeney of the Corrib Princess, Galway, Declan Corbett, of Corbett Court Restaurant in Kilworth, Co Cork, Michael Griffiths of The Maryborough Hotel & Spa, Co Cork, and David Mulligan of Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone.
