Can you enjoy the arts and be environmentally responsible at the same time? In straitened economic times how can business reduce the costs associated with waste?
Being green has become a major marketing asset for any businesses as more and more people want to stay, eat, and drink in places that are environmentally responsible. This also affects the arts given that concerts and shows take place in a bar, in a theatre, or other public venue where drink and/or food is served.
As a result, the Galway Arts Festival, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Galway City Council have come together to create the Greening the Festival Initiative.
The initiative is aimed at venues and events associated with the Galway Arts Festival this year while also helping businesses in the city reduce waste and thereby reduce costs, and promote Galway city as a green destination.
“I am delighted to be working with Galway Arts Festival on such an exciting and ambitious project,” said Sharon Carroll the Galway City Council’s environment education officer. “By taking small steps to reduce their waste, participating businesses will see big cost savings, as well as help set the foundations for Galway city to become a green and sustainable business and tourist destination.”
John Crumlish, the chief executive of the Galway Arts Festival said: “The festival is very happy to be working with the Galway City Council and the Environmental Protection Agency and hopes very much that this initiative will help us all move towards the goal of making Galway a green destination.”
Businesses in the city that would like to get involved can do so by becoming a Green Festival Member. To become a Green Festival Member contact Sharon Carroll at [email protected]
