There are lots of marine activities planned for Galway over the coming days as part of the Marine Month of Madness throughout June.
Adults interested in exploring the shore are welcome to go on an expedition to Grattan Beach, Salthill, today (Thursday ), meeting at 7pm at the lifeguard station on Grattan Beach. Attendance is free but booking is advised by emailing [email protected]
Saturday will see Galway Dive Club and the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group practise their rescue skills to refloat stranded whales at 4pm on the beach opposite the Galway Bay Hotel. Children should bring their buckets and spades for the sandcastle building competition, sponsored by the Lighthouse Giftshop, and the lights will be on during the competition.
On Sunday, in an event co-sponsored by the Marine Institute and Galway Atlantaquaria, they along with partner organisations will celebrate World Ocean Day in Galway Atlantaquaria. A family fun day with activities for all ages will take place between 11am and 5pm, and reduced admission prices will apply on the day.
There will be face painting and storytelling for younger children, along with interactive science experiments with the Mad Scientist, arts and craft competitions, dinosaurs with Dave Treadwell of Naturally Wild, and fish cooking demonstrations by Charlie Chan, while stands by the Ryan Institute NUIG, Inland Fisheries, The Irish Seal Sanctuary, The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, Irish Wildlife Trust, Galway Oceans Sport Club, Galway Bay Sailing Cub, Galway RNLI Lifeboat Station, and Galway Dive Club will be present throughout the day.
