Nolan appointed to Dáil committees

Labour’s Galway West TD Derek Nolan has been appointed to two of the most powerful committees in Dáil Éireann.

Dep Nolan has become a member of the new Investigations, Oversight and Petitions Committee and to the Public Accounts Committee

The Investigations, Oversight and Petitions Committee will examine matters previously pursued by tribunals. It will also be tasked with examining voter concern over public services and the political process. A referendum will be held later this year asking voters to grant new constitutional powers to the committee.

It will also operate as the formal channel of consultation and collaboration between the Oireachtas and the Ombudsman. It will be responsible for receiving and debating her annual and special reports and for ensuring her criticisms and recommendations are acted upon.

The Public Accounts Committee is the Dáil’s spending watchdog. It has a long tradition of probing financial and administrative matters across every Government department.
