Salthill set to celebrate the famous fives

Ireland’s longest running five-a-side soccer tournament, the Salthill Devon Carlsberg National Fives, takes place in Salthill Park this Bank Holiday weekend.

The tournament, now celebrating 35 years, is expected to attract 130 teams to Salthill Park for what has become the country’s leading five-a-side event.

This festival of football, one of the most popular and successful in the country, will once again attract upwards of 1,000 players to Salthill for the two days of non-stop play.

Traditionally teams from Ireland and overseas have competed in this popular tournament, and this year will be no expection as visitors arrive in Galway to enjoy a festival of football and fun.

Some of Galway United’s FAI Cup winning side of 1991 – Derek Rogers, Stephen Lally and Jimmy Nolan, in addition to another Galway United legend Ollie Neary, will be joining forces to compete in this new section.

As ever,there will be the u-13 and u-11 events running alongside the main tournament on Sunday, also in Salthill Park.
