Galway Football and Cancer Care West have teamed up to plan a novel fundraising drive. On June 18, a 5,000km sponsored walk will take place throughout every parish in the county. The walk for life, walk for health is being used to promote awareness of cancer which has a deep impact in every parish in Ireland.
The event is the culmination of an approach made by Cancer Care West to Galway football in 2010. They originally discussed the possibility of working together on a fundraising event, and as discussions progressed the opportunity to establish a more substantial and long-term association between both organisations developed.
To promote the partnership and raise awareness Cancer Care West and their logo will appear on all Galway football county jerseys this season. The funds from the walk will be shared by the charity and the Galway footballers and is the only fundraising income that will be shared between the organisations.
