The 10 first round losers in the county football championship are back in action this weekend with the winners of these fixtures joining NUIG in round three. All will still have ambitions of contesting for the Frank Fox Cup in 2011.
The losers will be pitted against each other over the next few months in a scrap to avoid being relegated to intermediate. With the stakes so high for all the teams involved, the expectation is that there will be some top quality action on view.
The first game is on Saturday evening at 6pm in Pearse Stadium and is an all-city tie between St James and St Michael’s. There are three games down for decision on Sunday at the city venue, Bearna v Leitir Mór, Mountbellew/Moylough v Michael Breathnach and Killanin vKilkerrin/Clonberne. Caltra and Cortoon are in action in Tuam Stadium at 2pm on Sunday.
