Book launched in honour of Professor Nicholas Canny

In honour of the retirement of Professor Nicholas Canny of NUI Galway, Reshaping Ireland, 1550-1700: Colonization and its Consequences is being launched in the Moore Institute in NUI Galway on Wednesday June 1 at 5.00pm.

The event will be sponsored by the Department of History and Professor Steven Ellis of the department will chair the book launch and introduce all the speakers during the evening.

President of NUI Galway, Dr James J Browne, has agreed to address the event and the book will be launched by an tOllamh Michéal Mac Craith.

Edited by Brian Mac Cuarta SJ, Reshaping Ireland, 1550-1700: Colonization and its Consequences is a collection of essays that promises to extend our understanding of the colonial paradigm in early modern Ireland.

It develops on themes such as plantation cartography and building, colonial discourse, the peerage, Caroline political culture and evolving views of the Irish past; contributors include Ciarán Brady (TCD ), John McGurk (founder of History Society ), Annaleigh Margey (U London ) and Padraig Lenihan (NUI Galway ) among many others.
