Walsh’s Sligo open championship bid

Kevin Walsh's Sligo team start their Connacht championship campaign on Sunday when they take on Leitrim in Markievicz Park. The Yeat's men were unlucky to be relegated from division two of the NFL this year, but, even without the injured David Kelly, they should have too much power and class for Leitrim.

• The Galway GAA is working with the ICBE Begin Again Programme to help provide work placements for members of the GAA. Possible opportunities exist in the following areas: Coaching, health and safety, manual direct labour, communications and public relations, strategic planning, and several other areas to be identified by GAA Clubs. There could also be an opportunity to access placements that exist in the wider business community. The programme is a mix of training, mentoring and project work. All participants taking part in the GAA/Begin Again Programme must have availed of unemployment assistance from the Social Welfare for the period of three months, and participants retain their social welfare benefits during the work placement programme.

• Padraig Pearses GAA Club has confirmed a Month’s Mind Mass for the late Fr Nicholas Murray will be held in Ballymacward Church on Saturday at 7pm. All members and players of the club, past and present, along with former teammates of the late Fr Murray from Fohenagh, Ballinasloe, and Galway are invited to attend.
