Politicians to meet HSE management for health service briefing

Oireachtas and regional health forum members from Galway and Roscommon will be briefed on local health services at a special meeting to be held at University Hospital Galway tomorrow (Friday ).

Management representatives from UHG, Merlin Park, Portiuncula and Roscommon hospitals and Galway Primary and Continuing Care department at Newcastle Road will meet the politicians at 2pm.

Cllr Padraig Conneely, the chairperson of the HSE West’s regional health forum, says the meeting will cover issues relating to the public hospitals in Galway city and county and Roscommon.

He said recent issues, such as surgeons not being given adequate theatre time - which prompted a UHG consultant to hand in his resignation after 15 months at the regional hospital - and the facility being rated the worst performing hospital in the country in the HSE HealthStat report are some of the issues of concern which will be raised on the day.
